The Stonehaven Athletics program seeks to train students to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. This includes exercising their bodies in a fashion pleasing and glorifying to God, and more importantly, the development of Christlike character on the sports field. Physical education is not divorced from academics, but rather is consistent with the classical model of education. Christ is Lord over the spiritual, intellectual and the physical realm. Our Lord calls us not only to honor our Lord with our body but to do so to the best of our ability.
Pauls tells the church in Corinth that "...whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). At Stonehaven, we understand this includes athletics. We include a physical education program as part of our curriculum and as our secondary school grows, we will increase our option of athletic extracurricular activities. This year, the students will explore just how fearfully and wonderfully they have been made by God through the practice of physical fitness activities (sit-ups, push-ups, stretching, catching and throwing, etc.) and the following organized sports: soccer, basketball, street hockey, flag football, volleyball and badminton. As the students learn the rules and techniques of each sport and interact with each other in a competitive context, they will have the opportunity to demonstrate Christ-like humility, love, self-control, kindness, meekness, obedience, selflessness, perseverance and holiness.
