Enrichment Programs

Cross CountryStonehaven offers a variety of enrichment activities that provide students an opportunity to develop particular talents beyond the classroom. The programs are designed to serve the school's mission by cultivating Christian virtues like diligence, creativity, discipline, teamwork, fortitude, and joy. Description: Stonehaven's cross country program is designed to provide a fun running environment in which children of all abilities will be guided towards their own "personal best". The cross-country team is a program that teaches the fundamentals of running and distance running. Participants will learn how to run more efficiently, judge their running pace, learn basic warm up/cool down strategies, increase running endurance and have fun while participating in meets with other Atlanta area Christian schools. Students of all fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Description: Playing chess has proven to help students enhance their creativity, improve their power of concentration, develop and expand critical thinking skills, boost memory and retention, and achieve superior academic performance. Additionally, chess has been shown to augment problem solving capabilities, provide cultural enrichment, advance intellectual maturity, and enhance self-esteem... qualities that we all desire for our children.

Description: God gave us music to celebrate his blessings, cling to his promises, and comfort our souls in times of sorrow. It is a universal language with the power to share his love and light to all who would hear. Program includes unique curriculum based on American Maestro Awards, star student prizes, and performance opportunities.

Age Level: 5th-8th grade

Season: August 7 to October 13
Days: Monday and Tuesdays (Fridays too for first four weeks)

Description: Stonehaven begins its first season of girls volleyball in 2017. Coach Lexi Keesee will be leading a group of 5th-8th grade girls in their inaugural season. Volleyball is a great sport to teach the importance of teamwork, commitment, and camaraderie.

Description: Good singing is joyful singing. Mr. Scheidt's aim is to remove the obstacles that make music and singing a laborious task. He teaches students "bel canto" style which can be applied to a wide variety of musical genres (classical, musical theater, jazz, etc.). Students will learn how to tell compelling stories with song, engaging the deep emotional aspect of musical pieces. Additionally, Mr. Scheidt equips students in sight reading, a foundational musical skill.

Description: This year's class is "Cruising Coaster!" The Roller Coaster Club will teach you how to bring a working roller coaster to life. You will come out of Roller Coaster training with the ability to reinvent your favorite amusement park rides and a Roller Coaster Basics Badge to prove it.

Description: Sign up for this exciting dance class! No experience required as this class will teach the basics allowing students to gain confidence, flexibility and musicality through ballet technique. Dance attire is required and info can be found at www.refugedance.org/academy under dress code.

Description: Will you split an arrow like Robin Hood? Or fell Smaug like Bard? By joining the Stonehaven Archery Team, you join the ranks of marksmen (and markswomen) who fill our stories, history books, and imaginations. Though you may not face the same fantastical challenges, you will gain the same skills and discipline which helped them triumph.

Description: Jim Payne, a Stonehaven parent, has loved rhythm ever since his parents let him bang on pots and pans with wooden spoons as a toddler. Since middle school, he has enjoyed every minute of playing drums and hand percussion both recreationally and professionally. From jamming with school friends in the basement to playing in church orchestras, and from touring with rock bands to directing church worship bands from behind the drums, the joys of drumming have been an integral part of Mr. Payne's life for 25+ years. With 5+ years' experience teaching students from ages Pre-K to Adult, Mr. Payne is delighted to offer Drum Set and Hand Percussion lessons to Stonehaven students (and even parents who, perhaps, still dream of rock stardom)!

Description: Programming Club is coming back in March for its second season. After successfully launching the program last year with 18 participants, we are excited to take our student coders to the next level. This enrichment program, led by Mr. Edwards, teaches children how to design a website using HTML. Programming can help teach a child focus, critical thinking, and attention to detail. The club is catered to programmers of all levels and children with no experience are invited to join.

Description: ArtServe International is an arts ministry that offers life-empowerment, faith enrichment, and community development art programs that shares God's love with all people.
