The Story of Stonehaven

Humble, perseverance, and joy are three fitting words to describe the first fifteen years of the Stonehaven journey. From humble beginnings, the school has depended on the Godly character of its teachers, the quality of its curriculum, and the support of our families to deliver an excellent Christ-centered classical education. Like any small startup school, many challenges were encountered and overcome through the perseverance of a committed community that believed in the enduring value of classical Christian education.

Amidst the challenges inherent to any school community, Stonehaven has successfully created and nurtured a robust culture of joy, love, and grace. The school achieved a major milestone in its journey by recently securing and occupying two campuses to serve as our forever home in the Marietta and Smyrna community. This provides our school with security and freedom to boldly envision how we integrate our school's true, good, and beautiful mission with our campus expansion plans.

A Beginning

In 2004, a group of families and educators organized a plan to start Atlanta Classical Christian Academy (the school's original name). In the fall of 2004, 34 students and their families formed the founding families of the school. From the very beginning, the school has held a strong commitment to the great ideas of a Christ-centered classical education.

Growing Roots

The school's original location at Cumberland Community Church attracted a strong core of families in the Smyrna area. Driven by an exceptional group of teachers, the phase from 2004 to 2011 was focused on developing a consistently strong academic program year to year. Procedures, curriculum, and policies were well defined giving a strong foundation for the school to grow.

Forming an Identity

In 2012, Stonehaven created its first strategic plan to develop a vision for how it could best achieve its mission in the Atlanta area. One year later, the school moved from its original location to GracePointe Church in Marietta. This was followed by the school changing its name in 2015 from Atlanta Classical Christian Academy to The Stonehaven School. From 2012 to 2018 the school achieved a steady growth in its student body from 80 students to 120 students. This period was defined by the forming of a cohesive core of families and educators dreaming and planning about the beautiful possibilities ahead for the school.

Future of Stonehaven

Stonehaven recognized its largest enrollment ever in August of 2023 with more than 300 students. With a beautiful new Upper School building on eight acres of land and the renovation of a 23,000 sq. ft. church building one-half of a mile down the road, Stonehaven has found its new home in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Marietta. With a remarkable group of educators and families partnering together, the school is planning to grow enrollment to a maximum of 550 students over the next ten years.
