An aspiring cat lady, Maggie Bowling graduated from Radford University with a degree in History. When she was invited to teach missionary kids in Russia for a season, law school plans were derailed, and the experience cemented her love for education. She decided to classically homeschool her own children for nine years, teaching upper school history at the Master’s Academy in Marietta. Outside of classical education, Maggie has also spent three years supporting special needs students in the public school system. She loves kids of all ages but has a special appreciation for adolescents, especially their expanding brains and fantastic humor. Maggie has spent eight summers working with high schoolers at summer camp and has led multiple international trips where teens were able to experience God's kingdom and discover the gifts he put in them. Her family attends Highlands Church in Marietta, where she is active in a small group. Maggie also loves to read, hike, travel, and do crossword puzzles.

Leah Colvin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has lived in New York, North Carolina and Louisiana, though she now calls Georgia home. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's in Child and Family Development and from New Orleans Baptist Seminary with a Master’s of Divinity. She has served in multiple churches but now works full-time as the Girls Student Ministry Coordinator in STS at The Church of the Apostles. She loves her job, her students, and church, but also loves traveling as much as possible, spending time with her friends and family, running, sleeping, and anything in or by the water. She is passionate about a good museum and will be the one who reads every sign in the exhibit.

Mary Beth Cooper is a Georgia native who holds a Bachelor's degree in Health & Sports Science from Kennesaw State University, where she also minored in Spanish. Evangelical missions have been a large part of Mary Beth’s life. She has served internationally in several countries, including a summer in Monterrey, Mexico. In these opportunities, she was immersed in the culture and language, working to build a movement of evangelism and discipleship. Mary Beth met her husband Andrew in 2009 at their church (Trinity Anglican Church) where they are still members. They have two children, Naomi who loves singing and Aaron who enjoys martial arts. In her leisure time, Mary Beth enjoys playing volleyball in a local league with friends as well as hiking in God’s beautiful creation.

A native Texan, Susan grew up as the daughter of a high school and college math teacher. She grew up wondering why anyone of sound mind would want to teach math as a profession?! After graduating from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) with a degree in Finance, she began a career in commercial banking. Following a few years as a stay-at-home-mom, she returned to the working world at a crisis pregnancy center as bookkeeper, parenting teacher and school speaker. Shortly after enrolling their girls in a classical Christian school outside of Fort Worth, TX, Susan was asked to prayerfully consider teaching mid-level math. Within a few weeks, she completely understood the desire to teach and is now passionate about the classical Christian school model. It is a joy to share that math is not a neutral subject, and it all works because of our loving Creator. Susan is married to Clay and they have three daughters that attend Stonehaven. They are members of The Church of the Apostles. She enjoys exercise, reading when she can, and taking walks with her family and crazy dogs, Amos and Franklin.

Hannah Hanbury started at Stonehaven in 2021, after teaching in day school and collegiate contexts in Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky. She has broad experience in international and cross-cultural missions and has worked in Spanish-language editing and translation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Spanish Language and Literature from Samford University and a Master of Arts degree in Spanish with a graduate certificate in Latin American and Latino Studies from the University of Louisville. She completed additional graduate coursework in theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Hannah serves on the Young Alumni Board of Atlanta for Samford University. She and her husband Aaron are members of Christ Covenant and have two daughters: Ellen and Elisabeth.

Luke Hancock graduated from Liberty University in 2021 with a B.A. in Philosophy and a minor in Creation Studies. In the field of philosophy, Luke has published an article on the relation of morality and the existence of God. Classically educated himself, Luke has a passion for the classical canon and wrote his senior Honors thesis on classical education, storytelling, and philosophy. He enjoys spending his summers working at camp. He once hiked 50 miles on the Appalachian Trail and loves camping and the outdoors. He enjoys sports, especially soccer and Ultimate Frisbee. His favorite book is Perelandra by C.S. Lewis and, if given the chance, he’ll talk your ear off if you ask him about medieval cosmology and how it relates to the thought of C.S. Lewis. His other interests include foosball, superhero movies, theatre, and board games.

Melissa Hobson earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS and her MA in Communication and Culture from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Daughter Avery and son Liam love being part of the Stonehaven Upper School. David and Melissa worship at Trinity Anglican. When she isn't teaching or deaning, you can find her downloading podcasts, streaming true crime docs, or fangirling her own kids in soccer and drama. Melissa proudly serves as Head of Cambridge House.

Ryan Hooks graduated from Samford University with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, and earned his M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Columbia International University, where he is also currently a PhD candidate in Intercultural Studies. Ryan has enjoyed teaching theology and seminary-level courses all over the world. He grew up in central Florida and Birmingham, AL. He met his wife, Allison, during the first week of their freshman year at Samford, and they have been together ever since. Allison and Ryan have two Upper School daughters, Lily and Mia, who have attended Stonehaven since Pre-K. His family loves to travel, especially overseas where they can engage with other cultures in a meaningful way. Ryan also enjoys outdoor cooking, Braves games, movies, and spending time with friends and family. The Hooks family is active in their church, Smyrna First Baptist.

Kathryn Jackson earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and B.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from the University of Georgia. Go DAWGS! She spent several years teaching at the secondary level and has also worked in the corporate world in technology and design. She has been a part of the Stonehaven community for several years, first as a parent in 2009, and then as a teacher beginning in 2014. She and Eric have three children: Canon, Anne, and Kate. Kathryn attends Cumberland Community Church with her family where she has served in various teaching roles. Kathryn enjoys all things academia, owns too many books, loves visiting college campuses, and drinks too much coffee.

Buddy grew up in Columbus, Georgia and graduated from Columbus State University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, but he studied music at UGA as well. He began his professional career as an actuary before moving into the mortgage industry, where he spent several years originating home loans. Married to Ann Marie and living in Smyrna since 2009 with their two daughters, Buddy and his family are active members of Smyrna Presbyterian Church and love their church family. Involved with the choir, he sings and plays trumpet regularly at the church. In addition to music, he enjoys golf, Georgia football, Braves baseball, carpentry (and generally fixing things), as well as reading and learning new things. With a fervent desire to teach at Stonehaven, Buddy has witnessed the fruit of the classical model with his own children and prayed that he could be of service to the families of this wonderful community.

Jordan was born and raised right here in the Atlanta area and is a graduate of Fellowship Christian School in Roswell. He then studied at Furman University where he earned a B.S. in mathematics. After two years of classroom teaching, Jordan had the opportunity to lead a team of college students in a gap-year program doing mission work in the Dominican Republic. This was a life-changing experience for Jordan: he fell in love with cross-cultural missions and also met his wife, Eliana, in the DR! Jordan and his wife now live and do ministry in the Midwood Apartment Complex in Marietta, which is over ninety percent Spanish speaking. Before coming to Stonehaven Jordan spent several years teaching at his alma mater, Fellowship Christian School, and he is so grateful that the Lord opened the door to teach at The Stonehaven School located right in his backyard! Jordan got into teaching because of the difference teachers made in his walk with Christ, and his greatest desire is to come alongside Stonehaven families and help in the spiritual formation of Stonehaven students. Jordan and his wife are members of Grace Community Church in Marietta.

Eve Marks graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was one of the founding teachers of Stonehaven (formerly Atlanta Classical Christian Academy) and taught several subjects including upper levels of science, math, Latin, and omnibus. Before joining Stonehaven, she taught at Franklin Classical School in Franklin, TN, and Veritas Schools in Atlanta, GA, and has most recently taught both Latin and Human Anatomy and Physiology at Whitefield Academy. Eve brings not only decades of teaching experience back to Stonehaven but a wealth of wisdom and expertise in Classical education. Eve and her husband, Steve, worship at Midway Presbyterian Church.

Tyler Proffitt graduated with his B.A. in History from the University of Georgia before going to the University of Mississippi for graduate school,where he studied politics in the American South and the role of religion in the civil rights movement. He began teaching History at Stonehaven in 2014 and serves as the Upper School Dean of Students. He also coaches Stonehaven's track and field team and loves seeing students cultivate a love for creation through the Pathfinders program. During the summer, you can find Tyler working as a program director at a summer camp in northeastern Alabama and exploring America's open roads. He worships at All Souls Anglican Church in Atlanta and enjoys spending time outdoors with friends, reading, and attempting to teach himself to play piano.

After getting bit by the language bug in high school, Matt studied five languages en route to a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Georgia and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Biola University, with plans to translate the Bible with Wycliffe. When those plans changed, he stumbled into an 11-year career in real estate finance. During that time, Matt never lost his love of languages or his desire to help others grow in wisdom, knowledge, and discipleship with Jesus. He is thrilled for the opportunity to put those to work as a teacher at Stonehaven, where he has been teaching Latin and PE since 2021. Matt and his wife Ashleigh live in Smyrna with their sons Burke and Josiah, and enjoy serving at The Square Church. On weekends the Stovers can often be found looking for wildlife on a local trail or enjoying the golden age of Georgia Bulldogs football. A few of Matt’s favorite things are good books, donuts, coffee, and playing just about any sport.

Katie Sutton has taught literature in Christian schools for 20 years prior to coming to Stonehaven. She has a B.A. in English from Samford University and an M.A. in English literature with a focus in medieval studies from the University of Toronto. While grading AP exams, she had a conversation with a colleague who asked if she didn’t find teaching at a Christian school constricting, like her hands were tied. She responded that she couldn’t see how one could teach literature apart from a Christian worldview; the themes of scripture echo all across the pages of humanity’s literature. She sees herself as a curator, showing students the glories of the past and training them not to be afraid of old books in which we can see the ancient themes replayed once again in the modern. She is also a coach, training her students how to annotate, close read, organize their essays, and refine and elevate their prose. She loves what she teaches, but it is nothing compared to her love for whom she teaches. She is the middle child of a retired U.S. Marine and a phenomenal Christian woman. When she was 17, she met a boy by the jukebox at the local Pizza Hut, married him at 22, and together they have a lovely daughter, Mae. The Suttons worship at Christ the King Anglican Church.
